On September 3, 2021, Forest Park Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #24 held the sixteenth Annual Michael Luisi Golf Outing. The outing was named in honor of former Forest Park Police Officer Michael Luisi, who passed away in November 2004 after a courageous battle with cancer. In remembrance and celebration of Officer Luisi’s life, the Forest Park FOP donates the proceeds from the outing to cancer research centers in Mike’s name, and directly supports first responders battling their own cancer diagnoses and the financial hurdles that come with such a diagnosis.
Rathje Woodward LLC was proud to sponsor the outing as a Banquet Sponsor and sent Associate Daniel Szczesny as a representative of the firm. Daniel is a former police officer and Fraternal Order of Police Lodge President, with deep ties to the law enforcement community. Rathje Woodward LLC is especially proud of its involvement in the outing given the impact it ultimately had in our hometown of Wheaton.
Forest Park FOP President Dan Miller recently shared an email which updated event sponsors that the first disbursement of outing proceeds was gifted to a Wheaton Police Officer, Officer Chris Harpling. Officer Harpling is battling a Leukemia diagnosis while married and supporting his wife and three children. Officer Harpling is currently unable to work while undergoing treatment for his cancer. The donation will cover one month of the family’s mortgage.
If you are interested in donating to support Officer Harpling, please contact the Wheaton Police Department or the Wheaton Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #200 directly.
In 2020 the National Institute of Health estimated that 1,806,590 new cases of cancer would be diagnosed in the United States and 606,520 of those cases would result in death. However, there is cause for optimism as the American Cancer Society’s annual report, Cancer Statistics 2020, showed a continuing decline in overall cancer death rates – including a 2.2% reduction in the overall cancer mortality rate from 2016 to 2017 (the largest decline ever recorded year-over-year). Events like the Michael Luisi Golf Outing are reasons for continued optimism in this fight.
